MUIDEN - PAMPUS - MUIDEN Two of our rowers were lucky enough to join with Penryn Ladies in Holland to compete in the Muiden - Pampus - Muiden Regatta. An ardous event consisting of 3 x 8k races held over two days. Helen and Gill arrived in Holland on Friday 30th October, rowed Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon, and again on Sunday Morning. The crew rowing in the Morlaider came 3rd in the first two races and second in the final race in a field of 11 Gigs. All times are added together to give an overall placing, which, gave us an overall position of 3rd place. Beaten by the Richard Lander from Truro by only a few seconds. There were only two Gigs that travelled from the UK so it was good to see us all doing so well. Our message back to you all is, get saving everyone.... We would love to take our own Gig next year and compete as RAME!! Accommodation is on glorious barges, and food and entertainment is all closeby. A bit more pricey than going to the Scillies, but equalling if not surpassing the enjoyment and achievement factor...The sooner we decide if we have crews willing, the sooner we can book and get the best deals on flights/ferries/accom ect...

NEWQUAY CHAMPIONSHIPS APPROACHING FOR BOTH MEN AND LADIES CREWS. We are fortunate this year to have 2 ladies crews competing in the Championships on 12th September and have an availabile spot for a mens crew for their championships on 26th September. There has been some debate about whether we would be fortunate to be alocated this space, and now it is confirmed, can all mens rowers who are still available please make themselves known so that the last three weeks prior to the championships can be utilised. With dedicated Coxwains and thriving new rowers, we hope to build on this years success to set foundations for next years season. Good luck to all who are competing. The lists as always, are in the Gig shed. |
| There will be one Mens crew in Newquay this year. Please make sure your name is on the list if you wish to be included in the selection. |

LONDON RIVER RACE 5TH SEPTEMBER 2009 As both crews left Cawsand square in a convoy of 4 vehicles with 2 gigs, there was an atmosphere of excitement as many of the rowers had never experienced the race before. 5 hours later, we approached London and the Ham Green Campsite, unbelievably, still in convoy. Everyone was in high spirits, helping each other to set up camp, and prepare for the day ahead. While the party of the first evening was as fabulous as ever, some making the most of the refreshments available. With an early start on Saturday, buses left the campsite at 7am. A slight amendment to our game plan had to be made only minutes prior to the start of the race, with one of our members who had opted not to stay on the campsite, but in a comfy bed with friends unfortunately and with deep regret, managed to get themselves lost in the middle of London and did not make the rendevous, resulting in one of our spectators filling the space on the Gig.. Then onto the race............. Both crews helped each other to rig up and get on their way, the Supervets in Penlee Point took the lead early in the race, by the time Minnadhu reached the Tower Bridge, the Supervets, aptly nicknamed "silverbacks" were well out of sight. . |
|
|
For many of the rowers in both Gigs, passing by the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Tower of London, MI5 office, and the London Eye, to mention just a few of the spectacular sights of London, as well as the numerous bridges, was an oarsome experience With passenger boats and shorelines filled with more spectators, all cheering us on it made the whole experience one in a million. 293 vessells started the race in total, with 22 Cornish Pilot Gigs. Penlee Point rowed by our Supervets, finished in 32nd place overall and came 3rd in the Gig Section, beaten only by Boscastle mens A crew and a young male Dutch crew. Minnadhu finished a few minutes behind Penlee, in 63rd place overall and 14th in the Gig Sectrion. Obviously, there were great celebrations Saturday evening and a jovial journey home on Sunday. Well done to all who took part and a huge thank you to those who travelled to support. It is fabulous to have supporters greeting rowers at the end of the race. |

FOWEY 22/08/09 Rame was fortunate to have a superb row in most races with the club being very well represented. |
|
|
The weather conditions at this years Fowey Regatta presented our crews with a challenge. As well as being wet for the first races, a strengthening flood tide made it essential that everyone used their best technique in order to cope with the 2 mile course. Although the conditions on the river were flat, once the crews left the shelter they encountered the rough chop with a fresh breeze blowing across the bay. |

| PAIGNTON REGATTA 15/08/09
Although the day was predicted to be a wet event, it was suprisingly dry and even the sun atempted to come out a couple of times. 12 clubs in attendance, it was their 3rd Regatta and a very well run event, although sad that more clubs did not support them. With miles of beach and plenty of facilities, this location could not be better for Gig racing. The racing was very competitive with Teignmouth dominating the event and winning most of the races with their gig Morgan. Paignton failed to win but were very close in many races and had four 2nds and two 3rds. Our best result of the day had to be our Supervets. They came 4th overall in the Veterans race, with a very well deserved win in the Supervets category. Well done lads. no doubt many more to come. The evening entertainment was provided in the marquee on the green, with live music and bar, ending in a most unique version of haybail throwing!! Well done Paignton. Hopefully more clubs will venture across the bridge next year! |

RAME REGATTA - 3RD AND FINAL TRIBUTE EVENT 01.08.09 With the day now behind us, we thank everyone who attended, supported and helped out on the day. There are so many of you that assisted us in so many ways it is impossible to single anyone out. But from the bottom of our hearts we thank each and every one of you. Without your good will, help and support we could not continue. THANK YOU |

Our own Regatta went off in tremendous style, with only a little bit of rain at the start of the day, the sun came out and continued throughout the afternoon. Pleasing all the crews who had decided to camp and making the day a one to remember in your diaries for next year!!! Starting with the end!! What a fantastic party was had by all. With Padstow entertaining the crowds at one end of the square and suprise live entertainment in the Gig Shed, followed by disco, the whole village joined in the party atmosphere. Our fireworks once again were a proud show enjoyed by all as was the bar!!! That must have been enjoyed as we sold out prior to the end of the licence!! |

The rest of the day... With an early start for all, what a wonderful team of helpers we had this year, from sandwich makers to carpark marshalls, BBQ staff and ticket sellers, photographers, umpires, cleaners, commentators, runners....the list goes on every single person helped in the running, setting up and clearing away. The racing started a little late, but kept on track throughout the day and ended without a hitch.. A shame Rame had 4 disqualifications heyho!! something to work on for next year. We had a crew in every category and sometime 2. 12 races in all. With 3 full mens and ladies crews, 1 under 14's 1 under 16's, a supervets, and a Vets. Out of those crews, we managed to enter 2 mixed crews. Unfortunately, our lady vets were unable to race in their own Regatta making way for our men who themselves had a fantastic race. Rame Supervets, with an average age of 59 came 5th in a field of 23, beating our own Vets who came in a very respectable 8th position. Well done. |
|
LOOE 27/06/09 Once again, a lot of very burnt rowers finished this Regatta. With races lasting almost 25 minutes, a very well done to all. Not easy to row in these conditions over a long course. |
MIXED& VETS - CARADON 04/07/09 In between the bursts of rain, the sun did come out. Everyone enjoyed a very well run event. Well done to Caradon for managing to turn out so many races in one day. Starting and ending exactly as predicted. With the added bonus of a little market shopping thrown in. |
| MEVAGISSEY 20/06/09
The second event in the Tribute series and what another glorious day we had. Rame Ladies Vets would like to thank Mevagissey for the loan of their Gig the Endeavour which allowed them to take part in their first all ladies veterans race since the Scillies Championships. Rame once again had a lovely day with many well wishers and supporters turning out to cheer us on, along with some of our novice rowers checking out the scene in preparation for their first race in a week or so's time. We had a spectacular result with our Junior under 16's. With only 2 members remaining from last years crew, our new team had started the year off well in Falmouth, and improved their position by 4 places today ending in 12th putting them in the top heat for our own regatta at Rame. One crew member has been rowing a total of 2 weeks Well done Alex, keep up the good work. |
|
|
The rest of the crews were just as successful, most crews improving on the positions. Our Mens B crew having the best result of the day, winning their heat in fantastic style, placing them in the top heat at our own regatta and beating the men's A crews time by 15 seconds we only mention that because Aaron, 14years of age, rowing in his first season with the men was in the crew. With his outstanding committment and pride, he will already have put out a worldwide press release of his own announcing the result of the crew.!!! Well done Aaron and the rest of your crew!! Our results were... Mens A 22nd, Mens B 9th, Ladies A 24th, Ladies B 20th, Mens Vets 9th, Ladies in same Vets race, 19th. |
|
MOUNTS BAY 13/06/09 Only 6 rowers were available from the club to attend this Regatta, making up a ladies B crew. Despite small in numbers, they achieved big results, coming a fabulous 12th position in a field of 23 Gigs. Well done ladies. and Good luck next week at Mevagissey for the 2nd Tribute event. |

FALMOUTH 06/06/09 With rumours of impending bad weather and south easterly winds on route, it was a bit touch and go for this weekend, but as all the experts predicted, low North Westerly winds were all that arrived, all we had to contend with was a little rain at the start of the day. Lovely weather followed with kiddies looking for buried treasure while parents raced, once again, we had a wonderful day. Everyone meeting on the beach, encouraging each other and sharing the days tasks, from rigging the Gig, to helping those too exhausted to lift the paddle after their race. All races were entered and results were admirable. Well done everyone. Ladies A 28th - Ladies B 16th Mens A 22nd - Mens B 13th Juniors - 16th- Vets - 11th |
many more photo's on gallery for Falmouth and Cattewater |

CATTEWATER 30/06/09 Many thanks to everyone at Cattewater for your hospitallity. As ever, everyone was made welcome and with great weather for rowing, everyone had a wonderful time. Lots more of Rame rowers experienced their first race having joined the club recently. Well done Alison and Dawn. It is wonderful that we are all enjoying the rowing and making new friends. It has been a fabulous boost to the club to hear comments from new members about how welcoming and friendly our club is. I think this is the spirit of Gigging! Long may it last. Well done to everyone who rowed. Next week sees the 1st Tribute event for 2009 at Falmouth. With so many novice rowers, everyone who wishes to row, will row. Please make sure your name is added to the list in the Gig Shed. Good luck |

FAMILY AND FRIENDS BBQ - 25/05/09 The day turned out to be more of a recruitment drive fun day as only a small percentage of members and rowers turned out, on what began as a wet and cloudy day, but materialised into a very pleasantly warm afternoon. Everyone who wanted to, had a row in a Gig. We had a few promises of new members and a lot of interest in the Juniors Club which is to be reinstated next Wednesday 3rd June. Any member wishing to help Malcolm is welcome to join in. |

| CHARLESTON 23/05/09
The summer has began, glorious and today sported the latest fashion in burnt faces, shoulders and arms!! but seriously, how gloriously sunny today was with a hint of cloud to give the occasional shade. We had a fantastic turnout for today's Regatta, with more than 2 full mens crew, plus the veterans, we have an abundance of new rowers all wanting to taste the race. 3 men having only rowed twice in training, competed in their first race, while 4 more having only rowed for a couple of months, showed grit and determination with results to be proud of. With 16 Gigs in each race, our results were as follows:- Ladies A 14th, Ladies B 13th, Mens A 13th, Mens B 13th, Mens Vets 4th, Mixed 11th. Well done everyone. |

SCILLIES 2009 Wow, what a great time we all had this year on the Isles of Scilly for the 20th World Championships. Ok, so we didnt all beat our last years places, although some of us did. Despite most of our party having to camp on St Agnes, we still managed to socialise well and ro w to the best of our ability. We will however endeavour to secure places for next year, at the Garrison Campsite on St Mary's as the extra travelling to and from the island was an added burdon for a lot of our rowers and spectators. One area that we all surpassed was that of being a "together" club and having a great time as one unit. This was helped along by the generous donation which the club received this year for the specific purpose of getting together for a celebratory drink which we managed to do with 100% attendance. |
|
With a large percentage of novice rowers in our club, it is a great acheivement and a testiment to their determination and committment that the places we achieved were of a very respectable standard. All three of our vetarans crews improved on their places along with the Mens B crew. And yes, I believe our SuperVets did acheive their aim and they beat the blind crew!!! Our ladies this year consisted of our Ladies Vets and novice rowers and were joined by 3 ladies from Paignton. A big thank you to them and well done as, our B crew and Paignton ladies won their heat bringing a trophy back to Rame. Regardless of which heat this was in, it was wonderful to see our club being cheered as they mounted the podium to claim their prize. A big thank you also to the men from Raleigh who assisted our Veterans crews. |

This year we must pay tribute to our five coxswain's. Rachel Peters and John Gibson coxed 5 races and rowed 5 races, spending an enormous amount of time on the water. Well done, we all appreciate your efforts. Three further coxswain's Helen Nance, coxed 4 races and rowed in 5 races, George Gibson, thank you too as you saved the day by agreeing to row with the B's with little notice rowing 4 races and coxing 3 and John Lentell also steping in to cox 2 races at short notice and rowing in 3 races. It is a lot to expect from an individual but they all did us proud and we thank you. |
|
|
Our Supervets thank Nigel Taylor for all his efforts in training the crew and were very sorry that due to matters beyond anyone's control, he was unable to join them on Scillies. All of Rame Gig Club missed Nigel over the weekend and look forward to him joining us on Scillies next year as the Supervets dedicated Coxswain. Get well soon Nigel ROLL ON 2010!!!!!!!!!! |

11th APRIL 2009 - DARTMOUTH REGATTA Another glorious day and a well attended event. With 14 boats in most races Rame raced in every event. As well as the rowers, thanks must be given to those that cox'd as well as the supporters who turned out simply to cheer us on. Results were, ladies B where we came 10th, A 11th, Mens A 11th, Ladies Veterans 8th, mens Veterans 13th, Mixed 7th. You may be saying, What happend to the results for the mens B race!!! Well, that is saved for last, as they desirve a slightly bigger applause. With 4 new, young and inexperienced novice rowers, attending their very first Regatta and Race, remembering also that they have only been rowing in total for a few weeks, they rowed an unbelievably good race finishing in a very respectable 8th position. Keep up the training lads, and a very well done. Everyone attending rowed well and clearly enjoyed themselves. Roll on the Scillies!!

10TH APRIL 2009 - Good Friday Fun Day The sun came out despite the forcast for rain, and with the sun came the tourists. All those that turned up to help had a busy day with Burgers to flip and boat trips galore. We had a financially successful day and hopefully, gained a couple of new members along the way

21st MARCH 2009 - LOOE ISLAND RACE Eight clubs attended the Looe Island Race which was set to celebrate the opening of Looe Gig Club's newly erected boat house. A perfect day for a row, with calm sea's and shining sun. The Ladies went first, and despite being t boned at the start, our ladies came back into the race fighting and finished in 5th position. Our Men did us proud by rowing a brilliant race finishing in 3rd position. Well done to everyone who attended. A big thank you also to our coxwains, supporters, driver and reserve rowers. An apology has been received from the Coxswain of Zeus who was responsible for the clashing of boats at the beginning of the race.

| 15TH MARCH 2009 - 3 RIVERS RACE
Well, what can I say, a great turnout for such a grueling race. For Rame, it was the very first time our Boat Penlee Point hit the water! With no time to practice, 6 brave ladies took to the water consisting of 4 veterans and 2 juniors. Charlotte in the bow, at only 13 years of age rowed a valiant race. Credit to everyone who took part. We were not last, and proud of each other. We did it. Hopefully we will have a better turn out for Looe next week and may even pursuade our men to take part! |
|
| NEW YEARS DAY DIP 2009 was another very successful day and our thanks go out to everyone who took part and helped out on the day. Biting cold, this was not a day to be hanging around for anyone brave enough to take the plundge. The tea/coffee and more importantly, mulled wine was a welcome beverage on such a cold morning. For Rame Gig Club this has kicked off our fundraising for the coming year. The new year is now upon us and we look forward to a successful one with improvements on our 2008 results as well as to see the start of our much awaitied rebuild to the Gig Shed. |
